The World of Elicyon: Insights & Press | Elicyon

Positioned between Knightsbridge and Hyde Park,

is one of London’s most recognised residential addresses. It is also a building we know intimately. Through successive private commissions, Elicyon has designed and refurbished a number of residences within One Hyde Park, developing a detailed understanding of its architecture, technical framework and the particular considerations involved in transforming an apartment within this landmark development.

Our experience at One Hyde Park spans interior architecture, complete apartment refurbishment, residential interior design, bespoke furniture and project management. From substantial reconfigurations to more considered interventions, each commission begins with the same question: how can an existing residence be made more personal, more relevant and better suited to the way its owners live today?

That familiarity with the building is important. Refurbishing an apartment at One Hyde Park is very different from designing a home from a blank canvas. Existing architecture, services, materials and technical systems establish a framework within which every intervention must be carefully considered.

Knowledge of that framework allows us to focus on what matters most: creating a home that feels entirely individual to its owner.

A Longstanding Connection to One Hyde Park

, the relationship with One Hyde Park extends across more than two decades.

, the team behind the original interiors of the development, and has continued through a series of significant private commissions undertaken by Elicyon within One Hyde Park.

That continuity has given us an unusually detailed understanding of the building.

When approaching a One Hyde Park refurbishment, knowledge of the original architectural framework and material language provides an important starting point. So too does familiarity with the technical considerations that accompany work within an established, highly serviced residential development.

Our work within One Hyde Park has ranged from focused design interventions to extensive apartment refurbishments and complete transformations of private residences. One four-bedroom apartment, for which we undertook a complete refurbishment and project management commission, was subsequently shortlisted in the

But familiarity never becomes a formula. However well we know the building, every residence, and every person who inhabits it, requires a different response.

Refurbishing a One Hyde Park Apartment Around the Individual

The greatest advantage of knowing a building intimately is not the ability to repeat what has worked before. It is having the confidence to recognise what should change.

Every One Hyde Park apartment begins with an architectural framework, but the lives unfolding within those residences are entirely individual.

at One Hyde Park, for example, was designed around its owner’s creative passions, extensive art collection and memories of time spent travelling through southern Europe.

The residence retained the developer’s original base build, including prominent yellow oak flooring and joinery. Rather than removing quality materials simply to establish a different aesthetic, we looked at how the existing timber could be transformed. The wood was carefully bleached to create a lighter finish, changing the atmosphere of the apartment while preserving the quality of the original material.

The architectural plan evolved alongside the interior design. Solid partitions within the principal living spaces were removed to establish greater visual and physical connection between the living room, snug and dining room. Circulation became more fluid, sightlines opened and the way the spaces related to one another changed.

It demonstrates why the refurbishment of a luxury apartment can extend far beyond decoration. Interior architecture, spatial planning, lighting, materiality and furniture all influence how successfully a residence supports everyday life.

Our approach to residential interior design therefore never begins with a predetermined aesthetic. We begin with the client: how they live, what they collect, how they entertain, their daily routines, the movement of natural light and the different ways a home is occupied throughout the day.

The resulting interior should feel specific enough that it could belong to nobody else.

One of the first questions in any apartment refurbishment is what should remain.

At One Hyde Park, our approach has often involved working intelligently with the existing fabric rather than treating refurbishment as wholesale replacement.

The transformation of the original timber within the Knightsbridge Apartment is one example. A material that had strongly defined the existing apartment was retained, but through a precise intervention its character and relationship with the wider interior changed completely. This principle extends beyond finishes.

When we approach the interior architecture of an existing residence, spatial alterations, joinery, lighting, services, materials and furniture are considered as parts of the same composition. Understanding what the apartment already does well allows us to be more precise about what needs to change.

Our experience across One Hyde Park includes private residences of varying scales, including a full-floor apartment and complete refurbishment projects. Commissions have extended from concept design and interior architecture through to bespoke furniture, procurement, project management and the final dressing of the home.

The scope may differ from one residence to another, but our starting point remains consistent: understand what already exists before determining what comes next.

Bespoke furniture and craftsmanship are integral to many of our interiors at One Hyde Park.

Rather than considering furniture independently from the architecture, we design and select pieces in response to their precise spatial context. Proportion, function, material and detail can therefore contribute to the overall composition of a room.

Across our One Hyde Park commissions, palettes have included polished lacquer, marble, patinated brass and nickel, alongside specially commissioned furniture and crafted architectural details.

Within the five-bedroom Knightsbridge Apartment, texture became particularly important. Leathered marble, plaster finishes, exposed joints and bespoke furniture were layered against a lighter architectural backdrop, while colour took its cues from the client’s art collection.

This relationship between architecture, furniture, art and material is what allows an interior to feel cohesive.

The value of bespoke furniture is not simply that an object has been made to order. At its best, bespoke design responds simultaneously to architecture and to the individual: the dimensions of a particular room, the way an object will be used, the materials surrounding it and the wider character of the home.

It is this dialogue between the crafted detail and the architectural whole that gives a residence depth.

Art, Lighting and the Personality of a Home

Art has played a significant role across several of our commissions at One Hyde Park.

, works reflecting the client’s eclectic interests were considered alongside pieces by Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and sculptor Helaine Blumenfeld.

Within the five-bedroom Knightsbridge Apartment, the owner’s extensive collection became an integral part of the architectural lighting strategy. Directional lighting allowed individual works to be illuminated and adjusted while maintaining flexibility as the collection evolved.

For us, this illustrates something fundamental about luxury residential interior design: the character of a home is rarely determined by any single material, artwork or piece of furniture. It emerges from the conversation between them.

Light, orientation, circulation and atmosphere must be considered alongside the objects a client already owns, the pieces they may acquire and the experiences they want their home to support.

A successful interior feels collected rather than imposed. It reflects the person who inhabits it rather than the signature of the designer alone.

Why Experience Matters When Refurbishing at One Hyde Park

Designing within an established development brings a particular set of opportunities and constraints.

At One Hyde Park, an interior designer is not working independently of the building. Every decision sits within an existing architectural and technical context, from spatial planning and integrated services to lighting, joinery and the material language inherited from the original development. This makes familiarity valuable.

Having completed multiple interior design and refurbishment commissions within One Hyde Park, we are able to begin a project with an existing understanding of the residences and their architectural framework. That knowledge does not determine the design, but it creates a more informed starting point from which to explore what a particular home could become.

It is particularly relevant when a residence has already been lived in for a number of years.

Homes are not static. Families evolve, art collections expand, technologies change and the way people entertain, work and spend time at home shifts. An interior conceived for one chapter of a person’s life may no longer respond to the next.

A One Hyde Park apartment refurbishment can therefore provide an opportunity to reconsider a residence at every scale: from complete interior architectural reconfiguration to lighting, joinery, bespoke furniture, art placement and more focused material interventions.

The objective is not to replace for the sake of replacing. It is to identify where an existing home retains value, where it no longer supports the lives being lived within it and where thoughtful change can unlock its potential.

One Hyde Park and Luxury Residential Design in Knightsbridge

One Hyde Park forms part of a generation of significant residential developments that have shaped expectations around luxury apartment living in London.

Our experience extends across several of the capital’s landmark residential addresses, including One Hyde Park,

Each has its own architectural language, operational considerations and relationship with its surroundings. Designing successfully within them requires an understanding of those individual contexts rather than applying a uniform idea of luxury.

At One Hyde Park, its Knightsbridge location, relationship with Hyde Park and established architecture provide the setting. The role of the interior designer is to transform the residence within that framework into something much more individual.

For us, luxury is found in that specificity. It might be the exact proportion of a bespoke piece of furniture, the changing relationship between adjoining rooms, the treatment of an existing material, or a lighting detail calibrated around a particular work of art. These decisions may be highly precise, but collectively they determine how naturally a residence supports the lives taking place within it.

Designing the Next Chapter at One Hyde Park

Our relationship with One Hyde Park has evolved through successive commissions and many years of experience within the building.

That history provides us with a valuable technical and architectural foundation, but it never determines the outcome of a new project. Every new commission starts again with its owner.

A One Hyde Park residence may require a complete apartment refurbishment and architectural reconfiguration. Another may call for a more focused redesign of individual rooms, new bespoke joinery and furniture, an evolved lighting scheme or a reconsideration of an existing material palette.

The catalyst might be a new acquisition, an expanding art collection, changing family life or simply the sense that a home no longer reflects the way its owner lives.

Whatever the starting point, our objective is not change for its own sake.

It is to understand what a residence already offers, identify where its potential can be more fully realised and create an interior that feels deeply personal to the people who call it home.

Our longstanding experience as an interior designer at One Hyde Park gives us an intimate understanding of the building. What gives each project its character, however, is everything we learn about the individual within it.

ONE HYDE PARK: Interior DESIGN and Refurbishment | ELICYON

for an evening exploring craftsmanship, creative collaboration and the role of design in bringing people together.

There is a distinction between designing a beautiful space and creating somewhere people instinctively want to spend time. The latter relies on elements that are not always immediately perceptible: atmosphere, proportion, acoustics, light, materiality and an understanding of how people naturally gather.

These considerations sit at the heart of our approach to architectural interiors. Rather than beginning with an aesthetic formula, we consider how a space will be experienced: how people will move through it, where they will gather and, crucially, how it should make them feel. This thinking inspired the evening’s theme, Designing for Connection.

Bringing together clients, editors and creative visionaries alongside collectors and members of The Roof Gardens community, the evening offered an opportunity to revisit the principles and creative dialogue that shaped the Elicyon x Lalique collaboration at WOW!house 2026.

Moderated by lifestyle and interiors journalist

, the conversation brought together our Founder,

, Managing Director of Lalique UK. Together, they explored the values shared by Elicyon and Lalique, touching on heritage, craftsmanship, authenticity, materiality and the nuanced role of decorative lighting in shaping atmosphere.

The discussion moved beyond aesthetics alone, considering how light, texture, acoustics, proportion and material combine to determine the emotional experience of an interior.

From WOW!house 2026 to The Roof Gardens Kensington

Earlier in the summer, Elicyon and Lalique unveiled the

Conceived within just 20 square metres, the Bar Room offered an opportunity to explore contemporary entertaining on an intimate scale. Rather than approaching the bar simply as a functional space, we imagined it as a setting for conversation, discovery and memorable evenings: layered, atmospheric and subtly theatrical.

Envisioned as a ‘box of delights’, the room was composed to reward the curious eye, balancing serenity with moments of drama. Bespoke timber panelling and architectural joinery created an enveloping, cocoon-like quality, while concealed niches introduced unexpected moments of discovery.

Backlit Lalique crystal panels brought light into the architectural language of the room. As illumination moved through the crystal, reflection, texture and shadow introduced depth, creating an atmosphere carefully considered around the rituals of hosting and intimate connection.

The room distilled something fundamental to our approach: the experience of an interior emerges not from any single object or finish, but from the relationship between architecture, material, light and the people who inhabit it.

Although our work centres on architectural interiors and Lalique is steeped in the artistry of crystal and the decorative arts, the Designing for Connection conversation revealed considerable common ground between the two houses.

in 1888, Lalique’s heritage is defined by an enduring mastery of glassmaking and the decorative arts. This legacy of creative fluidity remains centred in Alsace, where Lalique crystal has been handcrafted at the house’s historic manufacture since 1922.

Our own design philosophy is rooted in architecture and close collaboration with artisans, makers and specialist craftspeople. Bespoke craftsmanship is considered alongside proportion, materiality and detail, allowing individual elements to contribute to a coherent spatial experience rather than exist in isolation.

The Lalique Bar became a concentrated expression of these shared values, bringing the historic artistry of crystal manufacture into dialogue with a contemporary approach to form, materiality and architectural interiors.

The project also became a catalyst for a broader conversation about heritage and its place within contemporary design. Charu and Frederick reflected on how established craft can be respected without being constrained by the past, and how creative collaboration can allow traditional skills to find new relevance and expression.

For us, the value of craftsmanship lies not simply in preservation, but in evolution. Traditional knowledge becomes most compelling when it is given the freedom to participate in contemporary life; through new applications, new contexts and new ways of living.

It is an approach to heritage that looks forward: understanding and respecting the expertise contained within traditional craftsmanship while creating space for it to evolve.

Throughout the WOW!house Bar Room, Lalique crystal was integrated across furniture, architectural panels and lighting. Layered into the wider material palette, the crystal introduced shifting qualities of reflection, texture and depth.

The relationship between light and material was central to the sensory experience of the room. Crystal possesses a distinctive ability to refract and animate light, lending it a changing presence that responds intimately to its surroundings.

Decorative lighting was therefore conceived as more than illumination. Backlit Lalique crystal panels created points of radiance within the architecture, while the bespoke Totem Light, designed by Elicyon and realised by Iberian Lighting, brought together silk shades and a Lalique Coutard crystal cylinder. The resulting pendant produced a soft, diffused glow while establishing a dialogue between light, texture and craftsmanship.

Yet lighting represented only one layer within the wider sensory composition.

At The Roof Gardens, the conversation expanded to consider texture, materiality, scent, acoustics and atmosphere, and the way these elements combine to shape an emotional response. Individually, they may not always command attention. Collectively, they determine whether an interior feels intimate or expansive, calm or theatrical, formal or inviting.

This thinking is central to our approach. Rather than beginning with a predetermined aesthetic, we consider how people will move through a space, how they will use it and, crucially, how they should feel within it. The visual character of an interior develops in response to those lived experiences.

offered a concentrated expression of this philosophy. Light shifted across crystal, soft surfaces balanced harder materials and concealed details encouraged exploration. The room was designed not to reveal itself all at once, but gradually.

Art Deco Reinterpreted for Contemporary Interiors

The evening also turned to a question increasingly relevant to contemporary interior design: in a world of immediate visual references, social media and rapidly circulating trends, how can designers create spaces with authenticity and longevity?

For Charu, there is an important distinction between remaining genuinely curious and following trends without question.

Engaging with the wider creative landscape is an essential part of the design process, but a project cannot be determined solely by what happens to be visually prevalent at a particular moment. Ultimately, an interior must respond to the people who will inhabit it.

This philosophy informed the narrative of the person we imagined inhabiting the WOW!house Bar Room. By composing the interior around an individual, their rituals and the way they might entertain, we introduced an emotional dimension that extended beyond purely aesthetic decisions.

It also allowed us to approach Art Deco interior design through principles rather than pastiche.

Lalique’s Art Deco heritage was present through geometry, craftsmanship, material richness and sculptural form, but these references were interpreted through a contemporary lens. Rather than reproducing a historic aesthetic, we considered what gives that visual language its enduring strength and how those qualities might be reinterpreted for the present.

The result reflected a broader idea discussed at The Roof Gardens: heritage can provide a foundation without becoming a constraint. Understanding where a craft, material or visual language has come from creates greater freedom to reinterpret it.

Longevity in interior design is therefore not about rejecting change. It is about creating spaces with enough depth, individuality and relevance to exist beyond a passing trend.

The Elicyon x Lalique partnership also became a study in the value of creative collaboration.

For Charu, collaboration is an extension of the sense of play inherent in the design process. She likens it to a sandbox: a defined framework within which there is freedom to experiment.

Working with Lalique reinforced the value of playing within that framework together. Clear milestones and shared ambitions created momentum, while allowing each collaborator to introduce ideas, materials and perspectives that could lead the project somewhere unexpected.

This is particularly important within bespoke interior design, where a successful room may involve architects, interior designers, lighting specialists, artisans, makers and craftspeople working across very different disciplines.

The Lalique Bar brought together an extensive network of specialists, each contributing something distinct. Yet the success of the room depended on those elements operating as a whole.

Strong collaboration does not simply place two established creative languages beside one another. At its most productive, it creates the conditions for something new to emerge, an outcome neither collaborator might necessarily have reached independently.

Ultimately, the Lalique Bar was conceived as a place for laughter, conversation and memorable evenings.

Its details matter, but their purpose extends beyond appearance. Lighting creates intimacy. Materials invite touch. Acoustics soften a room. Proportion influences how people move and gather. The bar itself becomes a natural point around which conversation can unfold.

These principles extend far beyond a 20-square-metre Bar Room.

Whether we are designing a private residence, an entertaining space or a wider architectural interior, understanding human behaviour gives design its emotional dimension. The question is not simply how a space should look, but how it can support the life taking place within it.

That means considering the sensory experience as a whole: the movement of light throughout the day, the tactility of materials, the acoustics of a room, its proportions and the moments of discovery encountered within it.

Specific objects or finishes may eventually fade from memory. More often, the lasting impression of an interior is defined by the conversations it hosted, the changing light as dusk falls, the way people gathered, or the intangible sense of belonging that encouraged someone to stay a little longer.

These sensory layers give an interior its emotional resonance. Creating that kind of lived, felt experience is the essence of Designing for Connection, and a principle that continues to shape our work.

Following their Lalique Bar collaboration at WOW!house 2026, Elicyon and Lalique reunite at The Roof Gardens to discuss craftsmanship, lighting and designing for connection.

Designing for Connection: Elicyon and Lalique in Conversation

ELICYON X LALIQUE : Designing for CONNECTION at THE ROOF GARDENS

The world's most celebrated hotels have become destinations in their own right, recognised as much for their architecture and interiors as the experiences they offer. From desert retreats and restored abbeys to island resorts and urban sanctuaries, they demonstrate how hospitality design can define a sense of place.

The best properties are distinguished not by a single aesthetic, but by the strength of their design thinking. Some dissolve into the landscape, others breathe new life into historic buildings, while many use local craftsmanship and materiality to create spaces that feel inseparable from their surroundings. Together, they illustrate a broader shift in hospitality, where architecture, interiors and guest experience are conceived as one.

For designers, these destinations offer more than inspiration. They represent different approaches to planning, proportion, materiality and atmosphere, each responding to its context in a distinct way while sharing a commitment to enduring design.

Here, Elicyon explores a selection of renowned hotels through the lens of architecture, interiors, materiality, atmosphere and guest experience, highlighting the design principles that make them exceptional.

Architecture That Belongs to Its Landscape

The finest hospitality design begins long before the first material is selected. It starts by understanding the land itself. Rather than imposing architecture onto a setting, the most enduring hotels allow landscape, climate and topography to inform every design decision. The result is an experience that feels inseparable from its surroundings, where guests are immersed in a destination rather than simply observing it.

Few hospitality brands embody this philosophy more successfully than

. Across its portfolio, buildings appear to emerge from the landscape rather than sit upon it. Existing rock formations, mature planting and natural sightlines are carefully preserved, allowing architecture to become an extension of its environment rather than the centre of attention.

in Utah remains one of the clearest expressions of this approach. Wrapped around ancient sandstone formations, the architecture is monumental in its simplicity, drawing influence from Modernist principles while remaining responsive to the desert landscape. A restrained palette of limestone, concrete and natural timber mirrors the colours of the surrounding terrain, while expansive glazing dissolves the boundary between inside and outside. Here, the landscape becomes the primary architectural feature, with interiors carefully choreographed to frame changing light and uninterrupted views.

This sensitivity to place continues to define the brand's newest destinations, including

. Although each property responds to a completely different context, the underlying philosophy remains consistent: exceptional hospitality begins with understanding the landscape before designing the building.

has built a distinctive identity by making each property feel inherently residential. Generous proportions, layered natural materials, curated artworks and carefully selected furnishings create spaces that feel more like exceptional private homes than traditional hotels.

Rather than relying on obvious cultural references, each project draws on local craftsmanship, art and architecture to create interiors that feel rooted in their location while maintaining Capella's residential character.

As environmental awareness reshapes contemporary hospitality, many of the world's leading resorts are demonstrating that sustainability need not be treated as an additional feature. Instead, it can become the foundation of an entire guest experience.

demonstrates how sustainability can shape architecture from the outset. Buildings are carefully positioned within the island landscape, natural materials create a strong connection to place and environmental innovation is integrated throughout the resort.

in Mozambique, one of the most innovative hospitality projects in recent years. Buildings are dispersed thoughtfully across the landscape, maximising privacy while preserving uninterrupted views and existing ecosystems. Traditional Mozambican craftsmanship is paired with advanced construction technologies, demonstrating that innovation and heritage can strengthen one another rather than compete.

takes a deliberately informal approach to resort design. Organic architecture, responsibly sourced timber and open-air layouts create a seamless relationship between the villas and the surrounding lagoon, while low-density planning allows the landscape to remain the defining feature of the resort. Environmental considerations are embedded within the architecture itself, from passive cooling strategies to material selection, demonstrating how sustainability can be expressed through design rather than technology alone.

, limestone buildings are embedded within the coastline, creating a close relationship between the architecture and the surrounding landscape. Interiors extend naturally into outdoor terraces and spa spaces, allowing the coastal setting to become part of the experience.

Restoring the Past, Designing for the Future

Some of the world's most memorable hotels are not new buildings. Instead, they demonstrate how historic architecture can be thoughtfully adapted for contemporary living, allowing the character of a place to evolve rather than be erased.

in France is a compelling example. The transformation of the former Cistercian abbey preserves the grandeur of its Gothic architecture while introducing richly layered interiors that feel warm and intimate enough for modern hospitality. Rather than recreating history, the design embraces it, allowing centuries-old architectural details to sit comfortably alongside contemporary craftsmanship and comfort.

in Tuscany. Traditional stone buildings, timber construction and centuries of Italian craftsmanship have been carefully restored, with contemporary interventions introduced only where they enhance the experience. Every addition feels respectful of the original architecture, creating interiors that feel timeless rather than nostalgic.

Perhaps one of the strongest examples of restoration-led hospitality is

in Umbria. Rather than replacing what already existed, the project celebrates traditional construction methods, handcrafted furniture and meticulously crafted bronze detailing, all guided by a long-term family vision. The result is an estate that feels as though it has evolved naturally over generations.

on the island of Ischia transforms a historic watchtower into a contemporary retreat without losing sight of its origins. Mediterranean planting, restrained interiors and sensitive architectural interventions allow the building's original character to remain central to the guest experience.

While architecture defines the setting, interiors determine how a hotel is experienced day to day. Through proportion, materiality and craftsmanship, they establish a distinct character that shapes the rhythm of a guest's stay, from moments of arrival to spaces for rest, dining and reflection.

is celebrated for interiors that feel more residential than hotel-like. Warm timber, natural stone and exceptional proportions create spaces that are intimate, understated and welcoming. Public spaces unfold gradually, allowing moments of pause and reflection, while every room balances intimacy with openness.

takes a more layered approach. Gardens, architecture and interiors are designed as one continuous experience, with artisan craftsmanship visible throughout the property. Decorative details never feel excessive because they remain rooted in the wider landscape, reinforcing the sense that every space belongs to its surroundings.

Increasingly, hospitality extends beyond architecture into carefully curated brand experiences. Collaborations between fashion houses and hotels have become an opportunity to reinterpret established identities through a new lens, enriching the guest experience while remaining sensitive to place.

on the French Riviera reimagines British heritage through striped textiles, signature checks and refined outdoor furnishings that feel entirely at home within the Mediterranean setting.

translates the fashion house's minimalist aesthetic into hospitality through sculptural forms, soft yellow tones and natural fibres. Rather than overwhelming the destination, the intervention complements its existing architecture.

At Elicyon, we believe exceptional hospitality begins with understanding people as much as place. Every destination has its own rhythm, culture and landscape, but equally important is the experience of those who will inhabit it. The way guests arrive, gather, retreat and reconnect informs every design decision, allowing architecture and interiors to support meaningful experiences rather than simply provide accommodation.

This philosophy continues to shape our growing hospitality portfolio. Current projects include the

, where architecture and landscape exist in close dialogue, alongside a boutique hotel in Sri Lanka and an upcoming resort in the Maldives. Although each project responds to a distinct setting, they share a common ambition: to create destinations that feel rooted in their surroundings while delivering experiences that are both refined and deeply personal.

A similar approach informs Elicyon's creative work beyond the built environment. For a recent Monaco campaign, the studio designed a custom blue and white textile inspired by the sinuous rhythms of the Mediterranean coastline. Brought to life through AI-generated imagery, the campaign translated the colours, movement and atmosphere of the Riviera into a distinctive visual language, demonstrating how Elicyon's design thinking extends across interiors, hospitality, landscape and brand experiences.

Our work on branded residences has also provided valuable insight into the evolving relationship between hospitality and residential design. Projects including The Whiteley by the Six Senses,

, The Dubai Penthouse for Dorchester Collection and our

for Mandarin Oriental draw upon the service, craftsmanship and considered detailing associated with internationally recognised hospitality brands, while creating homes tailored to everyday living.

Across every project, the ambition is the same: to create places that feel inseparable from their setting and intuitive to inhabit. As the hotels featured throughout this article demonstrate, enduring hospitality design is defined not by spectacle, but by the careful relationship between architecture, interiors and the people who experience them.

Every project begins with a conversation. To learn more about our studio and approach, visit

Places That Stay With You

The WORLD'S Most INSPIRING LUXURY HOTELS: A Designer's Perspective

Few spaces capture the spirit of entertaining quite like a bar. Equal parts destination and backdrop, it is where conversations begin, celebrations unfold and memories are made. For

at WOW!House 2026, however, the ambition was never simply to design a place to serve drinks. It was to explore what entertaining means today, and how interior architecture can shape the moments of connection that happen around it.

Designed in collaboration with Lalique, the room reimagined the home bar as a contemporary setting for gathering. Conceived as a modern box of delights, it invited visitors on a journey of unveiling, where crystal became part of the architecture itself, craftsmanship rewarded curiosity and every detail revealed itself over time. More than an exhibition installation, it became an exploration of how thoughtful design can transform the experience of hosting.

Several months on, the project offers an opportunity to reflect not only on the room itself, but on why entertainment continues to occupy such an important place in contemporary design across residential, hospitality and commercial spaces. As our spaces become increasingly adaptable, projects designed for gathering are no longer defined by formality or occasion. Instead, they support the everyday rituals of connection, creating environments that feel welcoming, layered and deeply personal.

Charu Gandhi, Elicyon's Founder and Director, describes the Lalique Bar as a space designed around the "ritual of entertaining". Rituals are not defined by objects, but by sequences of experience: the arrival of guests, the first drink, conversations that gather momentum and quieter moments that unfold away from the crowd. Designing for entertaining therefore becomes less about creating a room around a bar and more about choreographing how people move, pause and connect within it.

That philosophy shaped the Lalique Bar from the outset. Rather than conceiving the room around the functional requirements of serving drinks, Elicyon designed it around the experience of gathering. The bar became an anchor rather than the destination, complemented by a cocooning lounge and moments of discovery that encouraged visitors to move naturally through the space, lingering a little longer as the evening unfolded.

"We wanted to create a space that felt TRANSPORTIVE and EMOTIONALLY IMMERSIVE," Charu explains. "We imagined someone who is CURIOUS, CULTURAL and who really enjoys the RITUAL of ENTERTAINING."

Those ideas informed every aspect of the design. Conceived as a modern box of delights, the room reveals itself gradually through concealed niches, layered materiality and crystal woven into the architecture itself. Rather than presenting every detail at once, it rewards curiosity, inviting guests to engage with the space in much the same way they engage with one another: through conversation, discovery and shared experience.

If the philosophy behind the Lalique Bar was rooted in the ritual of entertaining, its physical expression was what Charu describes as "a modern box of delights". Rather than revealing itself in a single glance, the room was designed to unfold over time, rewarding curiosity with layers of craftsmanship, materiality, curated positioning and unexpected moments of discovery.

"We described it as a JOURNEY of UNVEILING for the CURIOUS," says Charu. "There is a sense of PLAYFULNESS throughout the SPACE, but it's always grounded in CRAFTSMANSHIP and STORYTELLING."

That idea informed every aspect of the design. Crystal became part of the architecture itself, from Lalique's illuminated

chandelier to the asymmetrical crystal wall panels inspired by mythology and Art Deco ornamentation. Works drawn from Lalique's archive, spanning the 1920s to the 2025 collection, were brought together within a single setting, allowing a century of design to coexist through one cohesive architectural vision. Concealed cabinetry and hidden display niches encouraged visitors to pause, look more closely and uncover carefully considered details woven throughout the room. Mirrored surfaces created shifting perspectives and a heightened sense of depth that echoed the layered storytelling behind Lalique's crystal collections, where motifs inspired by Arethusa and the rippling movement of water informed the room's wider architectural language.

These moments of discovery weren't conceived simply as decorative gestures. They reflect the way people naturally experience a space when they're entertaining. Unlike a room that's passed through in a matter of moments, spaces designed for hosting are inhabited over the course of an evening. Guests settle into different corners, conversations evolve and attention shifts from one detail to the next. The most memorable interiors embrace this rhythm, revealing themselves gradually as an evening unfolds.

Explore how Elicyon's Lalique Bar at WOW!House reimagined entertaining through contemporary interior architecture, craftsmanship and thoughtful design, creating spaces that foster connection and endure beyond the exhibition.
